More than one million Americans—afterschool program directors, educators, parents, kids, and community and business leaders across Oklahoma and around the country gear up each October to celebrate Lights On Afterschool!—the only nationwide campaign to call attention to the importance of afterschool programs for our children and communities. In Oklahoma today, one out of four (25%) children has no adult supervision after school hours.
Organized nationally by The Afterschool Alliance, Lights On Afterschool! includes events and activities across America and at American military bases around the world. At these events, community and statewide leaders are urged to support afterschool programs that keep children safe and healthy, inspire them to learn, and help working families relieve stress and concern about where their children are and what they are doing.
The Afterschool Alliance and the Oklahoma Afterschool Network salute the many Lights On Afterschool! partners and programs working to make these events and activities successful, year after year.
